This book entitled "Legacies and Legends" are stories about the people and events that took place in Trinidad, Colorado from 1860 until 1960. The narrative is based on research from books, newspapers, magazine articles and internet sources. While the author has made every effort to present factual documentation, any errors that may exist, are unintentional.

The name "Trinidad" is the Spanish word for "Trinity" as submitted by an early resident Gabriel Gutierrez. Trinidad became a stopover on the Mountain Branch of the Santa Fe Trail bearing a reminder of the gently curving ruts of mule and oxen wagons drawn by travelers. Eventually, the town of Trinidad was populated by early pioneers on the banks of the Purgatoire River circa 1861. Trinidad, incorporated as a city in 1876, witnessed people of various origins, creeds, and cultures arriving throughout the years, molding its character. This book chronicles legacies and legendary stories about the unforgettable people and events that shaped the history of Trinidad, Colorado.
